Partition of India, which led to one of the largest human migration in history ( approximately 15 million people ) with Muslims from India moving into Pakistan and Hindus from Pakistan moving into India. This migration split, uprooted families and villages and made millions homeless. Millions more were dead due to starvation and by large scale communal violence that erupted amidst it. This work is inspired by the photographs of partition taken by Margaret Bourke-White which appeared in Life magazine
I work by instinct. I work by will. I believe in and accept contradictions. My art process: Years of practice, study, observation and thought have seeped into the unlit innards of my mind. From this labyrinth comes the strange will, according to whose dictates the body creates art. But during the process a struggle develops between the known and the unknown will for power. The process ends when both are satiated.
I am inspired by the real, the grotesque and the unrefined, like a crow or a vulture that gravitates towards carrion. I would rather nurture a wound and stay inspired than be healthy and bored.
